Welcome to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park! You have expressed an interest in one of the most beautiful tourist destination areas in the country. The Mount Desert Island Regional Chambers of Commerce represents 550 businesses, including over 120 lodging choices (from simple campgrounds to luxurious B&Bs) and more than 75 restaurant alternatives to suit every taste (from our native fresh caught lobster to prime rib, served down home casual to 5-star special).
There is much to do in our region. The Park alone has 120 miles of hiking trails, and 50 miles of carriage roads dedicated to biking and walking. Visit sand beach, thunder hole or the top of a mountain where the sun first kisses the continental U.S. Later, go whale watching, or cruise the harbor in search of bald eagles and seals. Play golf on the 8th oldest course in the U.S. Try your hand at ocean kayaking, rock climbing or scuba diving. Relax on a moonlight three-masted schooner trip.
Stop at our Welcome Center on Thompson Island just after you cross the bridge onto our island. Note its location now on the area map. Our staff of trained, well-informed information specialists can help you find lodging, select restaurants or plan your itinerary. A national park ranger is on duty during the busiest periods.
